"How To" Maintenance Program

These workshops are designed to teach Sun City Lincoln Hills residents how to conduct routine maintenance chores around the house. The workshops are conducted by skilled volunteers from our Handy Helper program and are presented for up to 15 residents in a volunteer resident's home. Each attendee is provided with a handbook of reference materials.

  Residents will learn about:

  • Smoke alarms - configurations, care and maintenance

  • Furnace filters - different types, smart and fresh vents

  • GFI's, circuit breakers and how to spot a switched outlet

  • Lighted address signs

  • Doorbells

  • Garbage disposals - releasing jams

  • Sprinkler controllers - programming

  • Sprinkler and drip heads - adding and fixing

  • Garage doors - lubing and adjusting

  • Water shut off valves - location and shut off

  • Water heaters - maintenance

  • CFLs - energy savings and lighting improvements

  • Carbon monoxide detectors - why they're a good idea

  • Annual gas furnace inspections
